The Desert Midwinter Pistol Championship match is held every February in Phoenix, Arizona, at the Phoenix Rod & Gun Club.  While much of the country faces cold weather, February in Phoenix is temperate enough to hold a five day outdoor precision pistol competition!

International precision pistol events start the week on Wednesday.   International competition is held under USA Shooting sanction and includes:

  • Free Pistol

  • Air Pistol

  • Rapid Fire Pistol

  • Center Fire Pistol

  • Standard Pistol

Each year the match bulletin will state the schedule for each event, though Free Pistol typically starts the match early Wednesday.

Conventional pistol events, also called "Bullseye Pistol" in most circles, starts on Thursday afternoon.   NRA Conventional Pistol rules apply except for the Civilian Marksmanship Program "Excellence in Competition" (EIC) match held as the last match on Sunday.  Each of these matches are described briefly below the break.   The NRA sanction the conventional pistol matches and include:

  • 900 Service Pistol
  • 2700 Conventional Pistol (.22 caliber, Center fire and .45 caliber matches)
  • Team matches for both Service Pistol and Conventional Pistol

The format of the match allows one gun per day, starting with the Service Pistol on Thursday, .22 Caliber matches on Friday, Center Fire pistol on Saturday, and .45 Caliber matches on Sunday.

The match is located at the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club.  See the map for details.
