The 2009 Desert Midwinter International Pistol Championship will be held Wednesday, February 11 through February 14.

The 2009 Desert Midwinter Conventional Pistol Championship dates are Thursday, February 12 through February 15.

October is the START of our shooting season in Arizona. While many shooters in the northern climes pack up their pistols for the blustery winter, we're just getting started. The Arizona State Conventional Pistol Championships are held every October. Through the winter, we'll shoot two 2700s each month -- one "practice" and one Approved. Plus USA Shooting "Preliminary Try Out (PTO)" matches once a month, plus some combination Practical / Police L matches. When New Year rolls around, we're thinking about the Arizona Senior Olympics, Old Timer's Match, Desert Midwinter, Phoenix Regional, Grand Canyon State Games, and plenty more practice and Approved matches to go along with more PTOs. All outdoors. We stand indoors to shoot the NRA Conventional Sectionals, NRA International Sectionals, and the Inland Empire League matches. Those are hard. Most times it's just gorgeous outside and we're standing in an Indoor Range shooting at 50 feet!

To start things off this year, the Arizona State Champship is a two day 2700, Team Matches, EIC Leg Match and Distinguished Revolver Match.

Surprise Arizona State Champion for 2008 is Steve Reiter! We're not surprised he won, mind you. But we don't usually see Steve between Camp Perry and January.

UPDATE!  The FINAL 2008 Arizona State Championship results are posted .  Sorry for the delays in updating the site for the past few months.  Relocating from Phoenix to Lakeside was so much fun, we decided to relocate from Lakeside to Sedona.

Three weeks ago at Fort Benning, Georgia, USAS held the Olympic Trials for Free Pistol.  The USA has two quota slots for Beijing in Free Pistol, and I'll be forthright with my bias in rooting for John Zurek to make the 2008 USA Olympic Team.

Along with John Zurek, Jay Shi and yours truly, Jon Milan made the journey east.  Personally, this was my first major Free Pistol match, so I didn't have the aspirations shared by John and Jay.

John's first day was spectacular, despite pistol problems leading to an extension of time.  John shot a 562 to take the lead going into the first day's finals. Jay Shi made the finals, also.
